Armaan Malik sang the song Bum Bum Bole for the film Taare Zameen Par in 2007 when he was just 10 years old. Since then, he has pursued a career as both a playback singer and an independent singer-songwriter. He has collaborated with various artists and recently performed with Ed Sheeran and Marshmello during their tours in India. In a recent visit to Bengaluru, Armaan shared that he believes in turning his dreams into reality. He discussed his musical journey, including his aspirations to win a Grammy, perform at Madison Square Garden, and collaborate with artists such as Charlie Puth, Zedd, and Justin Bieber. Armaan emphasized the importance of being prepared for the opportunities that may come.
Talking about the music industry's evolution, Armaan reflected on the period of 2014-2018 when there was a surge of great albums and the emergence of talents like Arijit Singh. He noted the shift towards creating viral hits over focusing on quality music. Armaan expressed concerns about the potential misuse of technology to manipulate voices and emphasized the importance of protecting artists' rights and preserving the authenticity of music.I find it both amusing and concerning that others can use my voice and texture to produce music without regulations in place. While AI has its benefits, it is important to have laws safeguarding artists' rights and preventing technology from diluting the genuineness of music. I firmly believe that natural elements, such as real instruments and musicians, should always be a fundamental aspect of music creation. What is authentic should remain so. Collaborations serve as a fantastic way to merge diverse worlds, audiences, and styles. Engaging in a collaboration with another artist is thrilling, but the crucial aspect is genuine admiration towards that artist. I have several favorite artists with whom I wish to collaborate due to my admiration for their music and the desire to create together. Collaborations should bring together various worlds, fans, and styles, rooted in mutual respect and excitement. Without this energy, a collaboration is unlikely to succeed. I have always admired many artists and have been fortunate to collaborate with several of them. Working with AR Rahman was a dream realized, showcasing how dreams can come to fruition through manifestation. Today, with talent and internet access, individuals from remote areas can share their phenomenal work and become stars if well-received. This period is excellent for independent music in India.
Comparing independent music to playback singing, the former provides much more creative freedom. As a playback singer, you often adjust your vocal style to suit the on-screen character portrayed by the actor. If the actor is older than you, you might need to modify your tone to ensure it aligns with their on-screen presence. It's fascinating how one can adapt like a chameleon in this instance. A dream was fulfilled for me when I sang with Ed.Armaan Malik described performing with Ed Sheeran as a humble experience. Despite Ed Sheeran's worldwide fame, he was remarkably down-to-earth. It's uncommon to encounter someone of his success who stays so connected to reality. They had wonderful discussions about music, including Indian music, and Ed expressed his desire to collaborate with more Indian artists. Their friendship grew strong, and Armaan now sees Ed as a brother. Recently, Armaan Malik delivered a sold-out performance at Bharatiya City in Bengaluru.
